It’s unfortunate, but sometimes the mouth is simply not prepared to receive a dental restoration. Bone loss and other complications can require more complex treatment. Luckily, Dr. Li uses bone grafting at our office in New York, New York, to get your mouth to where it needs to be for the beginning of your new smile.
What To Expect
When a tooth is lost, the bone structure in your jaw can shrink due to removal of the tooth and lack of use. This can make it difficult to conduct restorative treatments, such as dental implants, to repair your smile. At Infiniti Periodontics NYC, we offer bone grafting to create a stable foundation for any restorations you may receive.
A dental bone graft provides more volume and density to your jaw in areas where bone loss has occurred (i.e., tooth extraction). The bone graft material may be taken from your own body (autogenous), it may be taken from a human tissue bank (allograft), or it may be taken from an animal tissue bank (xenograft). In some instances, the bone graft material may be made of synthetic materials (alloplast). In our office, we typically use allograft material for its beneficial qualities such as rapid bone turnover and stability.
